Design CAD is an authorized distributor for SIACAD
IntelliCAD for sales in Australia and New Zealand. Stocks
of IntelliCAD are held in Adelaide, ready for immediate delivery.
Here are some important things to consider if you wish to
purchase a copy of IntelliCAD from us.
Single copies of IntelliCAD cost $A385.00
with printed manual
including GST and delivery charges and $350.00 without the
printed manual. You are not penalized by not purchasing the manual as it provided on the distribution CD-ROM
as a 600 page high quality PDF file.
We encourage
clients to purchase the software without the printed manual, as we aim
to become a carbon neutral company by encouraging a digital approach to
design work.
We offer discounts for multiple
copies - 10% for 2, 15% for three, 20% for 4-10. [E.g. $260 per copy for
5 copies]. Please enquire for
pricing on other quantities.
An update
'patch' CD-ROM disk to bring the software up to date with the latest release of
IntelliCAD may also be included. This is not always the case; if no
patch CD is included in your pack, your CD-ROM contains the latest
version of IntelliCAD. The current version November, 2008 is 6.4.23.
Our version of IntelliCAD offers a unique toolbar
which gathers together a number of valuable speed drafting tools - an XREF
(External Reference) Manager, image handler, a sophisticated layer manager for quickly
isolating entities, turning multiple layers off in a single click, a
text search and replace, a
revision cloud, simplified dimension manager, etc.

Some vendors offer what they call a Professional version
of IntelliCAD. We only sell the standard version of IntelliCAD.
The term standard has unfortunate connotations. IntelliCAD standard is a
2D and 3D wire frame modeller and is suitable for the vast bulk of
CAD drafting commonly carried out in Australia and new Zealand.
There is
a common misconception that AutoCAD LT and IntelliCAD are strictly 2D
drafting tools. This is incorrect.
At this stage, we are not able to offer a floating server licence
pricing model for IntelliCAD.
There are no annual upgrade charges for IntelliCAD.
Intermediate patches are free of charge. When a new version of IntelliCAD
involving major changes is released, we offer substantial
discounts to existing clients, but you do get to keep your old licence.
We suggest that copy be given to someone in the firm who simply wants to view
and print CAD drawings.
As Autodesk release each new version
of AutoCAD, they change the format of the drawing file structure. Since
IntelliCAD uses the OpenDWG standard, it ( and therefore IntelliCAD) will
usually lag slightly behind AutoCAD. In summary, IntelliCAD will not necessarily open the very latest
version of AutoCAD DWG files. Experience has shown that the OpenDWG consortium is able to
provide IntelliCAD with tools to read/write to new AutoCAD
version files quite soon after the release of the new AutoCAD version,
however there can be no guarantee that this will occur.
Note that unlike AutoCAD, IntelliCAD can write DWG files
all the way back to very early versions of AutoCAD - to version 2.5 if
you wish! This means that you can communicate with all clients, no
matter what version of AutoCAD they are using.

Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista.
Our principals prefer
Windows XP Pro, although the program works well enough for us under the Vista operating system.
Note that your copy of AutoCAD 2005 will not run under Vista.
IntelliCAD does not run on Macintosh
computers.
We recommend and test IntelliCAD on
computers with the Pentium series of processors, but see no reason the
program will not run effectively on computers powered by AMD
processors. We recommend Pentium P4 processors and above.
1 Gig MB main memory or higher.
We recommend 80 Gigabytes or more.
We like dual layer CD/DVD burners,
as burners enable easy backup of large amounts of drawing data. However, all that is required
for installation is a CD-ROM drive.
We have a preference for 'stand
alone' graphics cards such as those manufactured by nVidia
rather than those 'on board' as part of the motherboard, but on-board
graphic cards work well enough. If you are buying a new CAD workstation,
think about using a notebook computer with docking station. being able
to take your computer into the field and work on drawings is a great
advantage.
We recommend a minimum of 17 inch LCD
monitor.
